Nach einem kurzen Zwischenstopp in Christchurch, haben wir uns zur Banks Peninsula aufgemacht. Unseren ersten Stop machten wir in Little River bei einem sehr einzigartigen Campingplatz. Die Wasserrutsche war leider nicht in Betrieb aber dafür konnte man einen Spaziergang zu einem Aussichtspunkt machen, und kaum zu glauben, da oben zwischen den Grashalmen standen zwei Sessel zum rumknotzen. Auch die Sanitäreinrichtungen wurden mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet, die Plumsklos dekoriert und die Waschbecken mit frischen Blumen versehen.
Am nächsten Tag ging’s dann weiter nach Akaroa, der „Hauptstadt“ der Halbinsel. Für unsere Berta noch einmal ein letzter Schnaufakt: der sehr hügelige und steile „Tourist Drive“, aber die Aussicht war vom Feinsten. Wieder mal eine ganz andere Landschaft, die die Vulkane hier geformt haben. Viele kleine Hügel, eher eine trockene Gegend aber trotzdem sehr sehenswert. Nachdem wir den Leuchtturm, den Hafen und die vielen lieb restaurierten alten Häuschen besichtigt hatten, kamen wir zum Entschluss, dass wir unserer Berta mal eine Pause gönnen. So haben wir uns tags darauf bei sehr heißem Wetter selbst in Richtung Aussicht befördert. Der Lohn für den Schweiß, der an uns herunter geronnen ist, herrliche Ausblicke über die Halbinsel.
