DSC_3342Am Tag 2 begannen wir unsere Tour mit dem größten religiösen Bauwerk der Welt. 203 Hektar umfasst das Postkartenhighlight Angkor Wat („der Tempel, der eine Stadt ist“). Wir waren schon ganz gespannt und vorfreudig. Elisa erzählte, dass sie sich schon als Kind in Minimundus vorgenommen hat, das mal „in Echt“ anzusehen, weil es selbst in Klagenfurt schon so riesig ausgesehen hat. Ja, und da waren wir nun … und ja – es ist riesengroß und ein Highlight. Ist ja nicht umsonst auf jedem Reiseführer, auf dem Geld, auf der Flagge und auf einigen Bierflaschen drauf :-) Schon der Zugang über die Wassergräben und Teiche ist imposant, dann gehts durch eine Toranlage rein in den Riesen-Komplex und wir marschierten eine ganze Weile, bis wir zum ersten Mauerring gelangten. Dort fanden wir bis zu 50 Meter lange Reliefs, die eine Vielzahl von hinduistischen und buddhistischen Geschichten darstellen. Wir erforschten die Fresken und schlenderten dann weiter in Richtung Zentrum wo wir nach einem schweißtreibenden Aufstieg die Ruhe und die Aussicht über Angkor Wat genossen.

Weiter gings dann nach Preah Khan, einem abgelegenen und ruhigen Tempel, in dem einst ein „heiliges Schwert“ aufbewahrt wurde. In dem nicht restaurierten, von vielen engen Korridoren und halbeingestürzten Hallen gekennzeichneten Tempel fühlten wir uns gleich wie Indiana Jones und Lara Croft. Sehr schräg: Ein „Polizist“ in Uniform zeigte uns zuerst ein paar coole Räume und wollte dann für ein paar Dollores gleich unser Reiseführer werden. Wir blieben bei Selbsterkundung :-)

Ausklingen ließen wir unsere Tour in Neak Pean, einer angelegten kleinen Insel, auf der auch die Könige seinerzeit a bissal gechillt haben.
